About The Photographer

Picking up his first camera, a Brownie Starmite II, when he was just five years old, the life of Joseph Lennox has proceeded via an atypical path. After training and working as a scientist for most of his life, Joseph began an intensive formalized journey through art and the creative process using the medium of photography back in 2004. This journey has involved studying with master photographers at the University of California in San Diego (where he obtained a Professional Certificate in Photography), the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops in New Mexico, the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, and the Julia Dean Photographic Workshops in Venice, CA. The process has spawned a detailed introspective study of how he perceives the world around him. Although currently exploring high dynamic range nighttime photography in San Diego, as well as the creation of abstract images derived from objects in nature, what he enjoys photographing the most are people since they are constantly changing and therefore offer an unlimited variety of subject matter.

Joseph has had the opportunity to work with highly respected artists and photographers such as Tony Corbell, Leland Foerster, Annie Lemoux, Gene Nocon, Carlos Richardson III, Philipp Scholz Rittermann and Joyce Tenneson. His work has also been heavily influenced by such prolific artists as Bill Brandt, Imogen Cunningham, Andre de Dienes, Robert Parke-Harrison, Michael Kenna, Man Ray, Aaron Siskind, Alfred Stieglitz, and Jerry Uelsmann.

Influenced by cubism, expressionism and surrealism, Joseph's best works exhibit one or more of these styles. His own signature style is a work in progress. The images in these galleries represent a broad scope of genres he finds interesting. We are certain you will derive as much satisfaction from them as he had creating them.
